NEVERLAND MOVEMENT
Photographer, Gold Coast
Interview with Keely Baker:
Who is behind Neverland Movement, who makes it possible?
Hey I’m Keely Baker, creator behind Neverland Movement! It is currently a one woman show - photographer, editor, bookkeeper, admin and everything in between. From capturing moments in time, to producing imagery for clients to sell their products, I was made to create.
What makes what you do so special?
The thought of my couples reminiscing of a time that once was with their kids or grandkids, looking back fondly over photos that I’ve taken, fills my heart with joy. Photos will outlive you - your life, your love, your now, captured eternally. That’s what makes photography so special.
How did Neverland Movement come to be?
Neverland Movement began with me wanting to preserve memories and moments in time. The obsession started when I found my mum and dad's old film camera in the cupboard. I loved the idea of taking a photo, having no clue how it would turn out and then the anticipation of getting it developed to see if you got any decent shots.
Neverland started just as a name I needed for an Instagram page to post my photos on, never did I think I’d be shooting weddings and creating content for clothing brands.
What inspires you to do what you do?
I can’t shake the importance of stories. Not just my story, but those of others. Maybe that’s why I can’t escape my love of photography. Milestones and journeys are too important to risk forgetting. My desire is to give my couples vivid, authentic memories of the times in life that they cherish the most. There is something so powerful about an image that freezes time and allows you relive those tiny fleeting moments forever.
Where do you see Neverland Movement in 5 years?
In 5 years time I hope to be mainly shooting fashion photography for clothing brands - travelling the world and shooting campaigns with models is the dream. I’d still like to be taking on couple shoots/weddings as I do enjoy capturing love as well.
What are some of your favourite small, local businesses?
I’ve recently come across this Gold coast clothing brand called Selfawear, it has an amazing message behind it, one that I think a lot of people can get around. They are a company that aims to spread positivity and encourage people to become aware of their feelings, thoughts, intentions and behaviours.
Front Runner is also another clothing brand that I’m loving at the moment. They are a Sydney based company that sells retro styled athleisure wear, where nostalgia meets comfort and style. They are producing so many fresh and new designs that I haven’t seen in the market and I am obsessed.
If you’re ever on the Gold Coast you need to go and check out Alfred’s Apartment. Set up in an apartment they provide a unique retail experience, delivering quality menswear clothing and accessories, a barber as well as an outdoor dining area for their customers to enjoy. I love the energy, atmosphere and culture they have.
